Our wonderful small town of Te Anau is the gateway to some of New Zealand’s most outstanding outdoor experiences, and Te Anau Lakefront Backpackers is the perfect place to explore it all from.
Located on the lakefront and just five-minutes’ walk from the shops, you can take in the views, cook outside or in, and kick back in our gardens to the sounds of native birds.
We also have everything you need to get set for the great outdoors or recover after an epic day in the elements, including secure storage, laundry, comfy beds, free Wifi, movie room and a travel desk manned by our friendly, helpful staff who love to explore just as much as you.
Reception is open daily until 8PM, and late check-in can be arranged if you contact us beforehand.

Good hostel and excellent staff! Overall clean and tidy. Unfortunately my room didn't have bedside tables and lamps, and there were just 2 power sockets.

Great location right on the lake and a couple of minutes into town. Staff very helpful arranging tours. Dorm was great as there were no bunks. Met some great people there. Recommend

Loved the atmosphere and layout of this hostel!! Such a peaceful getaway with great views. I love how the bedrooms are completely apart in a different area from the facilities, (which allows for good quiet sleep). Everyone here was lovely. Would definitely recommend staying here!!
My key didn’t always lock my door to the bedroom, and I had to put up a fight to lock it. All the rooms are accessible from the outside instead of in a building.
