The Sassi Hostel is a recently opened (July 2015) property. It has already had good feedback and enthusiastic reviews from our international guests that have been here.
The Hostel offers the most welcoming atmosphere in a unique and extraordinary place: it is located in the heart of the old tuff quarters of Matera, Unesco World Heritage city and European Capital of Culture 2019. Its location allows an easy walk to the main sites of historical and cultural interest. It is the ideal place to relax after a day out or to start your evening of fun: pubs, bars, cafes are in the nearby.
Our rooms new, bright and comfortable. It has free WiFi in every room, linen, lockers and free cleaning. It is designed to accommodate young travellers eager to marvel at the beauty and charm of the city and at the same time be able to live for a few days on a low budget.

I had bedbugs in my bed. Electrical outlet near my bed didnt work. I sent email when I will come and noone was there. Exhually that can be much better,

Don't stay here. Bed bugs are present...the atmosphere is non-existent as it's mainly 40-50 year old people in the dorms. The place smelt, lockers weren't very secure, floors dirty. Overall the hostel didn't look like it should be open anymore.

This hostel is chronically infested with bed bugs, in every room, on both floors, in the annex and in the common area.
Looking at other reviews, the problem has existed for years. The management is well aware of the issue and has a list of excuses pinned to the wall for the receptionist to use when people complain. The hostel does take measures to try to address the problem, but they aren't working. The hostel should be closed, beds replaced and everything repeatedly fumigated.
