• Hostelworld.com's travel network reaches magical millionth member mark

  Hostelworld.com's social networking platform 'My World' has today recorded its' millionth member, illustrating that social networking in the backpacking world is more popular than ever.

  'MyWorld' was the first social networking platform released by a hostel-booking website, having initially launched in November 2006. Since then the members have increased steadily, and yesterday was a landmark day when it finally recorded its' one millionth member.

We knew that our user base was perfect for an integrated social media platform and this has been proven with the massive take-up by Hostelworld.com users. 'MyWorld' allows users to connect with fellow travellers, track their travels on their own personal map, view bookings, review hostels, and upload photos and blogs.

  Hostelworld.com staff are amongst the avid users of the platform, "Last year when Hostelworld.com Editor, Colm Hanratty travelled around the world in 80 days it was an integral part of his journey, allowing him to show other members where he had been and where he was going to next, upload photos from each destination, and receive tips from fellow members."

  New features recently added to the MyWorld Travel Network include an interactive route planner where users can store favourites and bookings, view reviews and plan future trips based on hostel locations. The new map application has the added benefit of a Facebook add-on enabling Hostelworlders to share trips with their Facebook friends (http://apps.facebook.com/hostelworld/) .

  Future plans for the travel network include the integration of video and the development of a "meeters" list enabling solo travellers to find like-minded people to hook up with in their next destination.
